“They
just keep coming…” said Lea Murray, President of The Volunteer
Center’s Board of Directors as a steady stream of cars loaded
with donations of goods for the waiting agency reps continued to enter
the Indian Hill Train Station Parking Lot Saturday, October 21st for
The Volunteer Center’s 4th Annual Make A Difference Day celebration.
Many large collections organized by township schools and scout groups
boosted this year’s drive. Record numbers were reported in each
of the agency’s collections. Families and individuals in the community
also generously donated items that will positively impact the local
and metro Chicago non-profits.
In addition to volunteer groups, local businesses also stepped up to
help. Zengeler Cleaners in Northbrook will clean and store the over
80 gowns donated for inner city youth to wear at their proms this spring
and local businesses collected goods to donate. Thank you to all participants
who contributed the following:
Hadley School for the Blind – 300 pairs of eyeglasses
Greater Chicago Food Depository – 10 pallets of food
and paper goods
(over 5,000 pounds of items)
Hilda’s Place – Four van loads full of warm clothing
INFANT Inc – One van packed with baby formula
New Trier Township Food Pantry – 3 large vans filled
to the brim
