| Immigration Program Volunteer | Dealing with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS, formerly the INS) can be a daunting experience that means long lines, and even longer forms. To assist newcomers through this bureaucratic maze, Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Ministries' Immigration Services Program provides clients with high quality, personal attention at a reasonable, often-negligible cost. Interfaith's Waukegan office is looking for one or two volunteers to lend a hand. Volunteers must be comfortable and confident Spanish speakers. Tasks include answering phones, greeting clients, completing simple immigration forms, etc. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in the field of immigration law, to improve your language skills in a practical setting and to make a difference in your community. To learn more about IRIM's work in the Chicagoland area, visit www.irim.org. Please contact Maria Helena Hoyos at mhoyos@irim.org or (847) 244-4342. | Feb 16, 2010 |

| Tutor | Wonderful oppourtunity to make a real difference in the lives of school-age children. The ABC Polk Brothers Youth Center (part of the Chicago Youth Centers organization) needs volunteers to tutor students, helping out with their homework, at their after-school program. The ages of the children range from kindergarten through high school. Tutoring for college entrance exams also will be offered. We would like a weekly commitment from our volunteers to provide consistency to the children. Any training or assistance, if requested, will be provided to the tutors. This tutoring program is organized by the Northern Board of Chicago Youth Centers, based in the north suburbs, and members of the Northern Board usually will be tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, along with other volunteer tutors. Our members can help arrange transportation for other volunteers from the north suburbs. | Jan 11, 2010 |

| Compassion + Technology = Mentoring a South African Child online! | Becoming a mentor through Infinite Family requires less than you might think. With little more than your own computer, a webcam and one half hour a week, you can be on your way to being a positive light in the life of a South African child growing up alone. Mentors must be at least 21 years of age and approved through an application process. In order to support video chat capabilities, mentors must have a high-speed internet connection and a webcam. Mentors will undergo a short online training program aimed at helping them understand the technology, the culture and the children.
