Compassion + Technology = Mentoring a South African Child online! Becoming a mentor through Infinite Family requires less than you might think. With little more than your own computer, a webcam and one half hour a week, you can be on your way to being a positive light in the life of a South African child growing up alone. Mentors must be at least 21 years of age and approved through an application process. In order to support video chat capabilities, mentors must have a high-speed internet connection and a webcam. Mentors will undergo a short online training program aimed at helping them understand the technology, the culture and the children. Following the training, mentors will be ready to chat with their Net Buddies. Infinite Family. Infinite Possibilities.
Job Coach Want to make a difference in the life of a refugee? Here's how you can help! Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Ministries is accepting applications from Chicago residents interested in helping refugees find full-time employment. Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Ministries provides career counseling and seeks connections with employers in the community to help refugees gain employment and self-sufficiency in the U.S. Volunteers would assist the Career Development team by practicing interview skills, preparing job applications and resumes, and accompanying refugees on job trips around the city. Please e-mail Jenise Morgan @ volunteer@irim.org for a volunteer application.
Sign-In Team (SIT) In this position, volunteers check in individuals who are registered for our joint NSSC/OASIS programs. (Program topics include art, music, politics, religion and spirituality, history, etc.) The SIT volunteer arrives one hour before the program to organize enrollment lists and welcome registrants. Once everyone is signed in (about 15 minutes after the class starts), the volunteer joins (and enjoys!) the program for no charge and is "on call" if the presenter needs assistance (i.e. with the lights). After the class ends, the volunteer returns the sign-in materials to the office. Training is provided.
