| Anti-Hunger Service Volunteers | Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation has over 160 member agencies-- soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and child programs-- throughout metro Chicago. We can provide volunteer referrals to our member agencies, to help you find meaningful and needed volunteer opportunities. We prefer to match volunteers in the communities where they live or work. Their reported factual observations help Interfaith Housing Center collect data about possible patterns of housing discrimination and to foster a housing market that is open to all regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, the presence of children, marital status, sexual orientation, unfavorable military discharge status, source of income. Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Ministries is committed to providing newly arriving refugees with fully furnished and supplied apartments. Each household must be completed before our refugee clients arrive in Chicago. Volunteers can help with any and all of the following: raising in-kind donations, pick up and delivery, storage, moving furniture, shopping for household items and groceries (no financial contribution necessary), setting up apartments, inviting others to volunteer. On the day of arrival, you may join Interfaith staff to welcome refugees at O'Hare airport, or prepare a hot meal to be waiting for them when they arrive at their new home. As a Pre-Arrival Volunteer, your work will be a fundamental element in assuaging the stress and confusion that comes with finding your way in a new home. |
