Awards/Benefit Committee Members Annual Awards/ Benefit Committee – This ad hoc committee is responsible for planning and executing our major fundraiser of the year. The committee typically forms in March to plan for the first Sunday in November event. This event helps to raise funds, awareness for the organization and recognition to outstanding individuals, organizations in the early childhood community.
Board Members for CNE Join the Board of Directors at Childcare Network of Evanston…Make a difference in the lives of young children and their families. The Childcare Network of Evanston (CNE) would like to invite those interested in joining the Board of Directors. Serving on the Board is a rewarding and fulfilling experience that provides opportunities to give back to the community and secure the continuing existence of a valuable resource for young children. We are searching for volunteers who are interested in high quality early childhood education and care. The Board's main objective is to oversee CNE operations, and to raise sufficient funds for continued provision of programs and services. CNE asks for a two year term commitment for members serving on the Board of Directors. Attendance at monthly meetings and special events is also required. Board members participate in ongoing committee work between monthly meetings.
Computer Skills Teacher for Seniors We need volunteers to help with teaching basic computer skills: Intro. to Computers, to the Internet, and to Microsoft Word.
Docent Docents receive training and then help give tours of the Park, slide lectures in schools and retirement communities, churches and houses of worship, local business and community organizations and private groups
English Tutor Interfaith Refugee & Immigration Ministries is seeking English Tutors for the benefit of our refugee and immigrant clients. While many are pre-literate, others simply need help improving reading and writing skills. We are looking for individuals who offer compassion and commitment and who seek to learn new life lessons of their own. We encourage sessions that are creative, relative, and fun. A commitment of two tutoring hours per week over the course of a three-month time frame is requested. Session schedules are arranged between Tutor and Tutee, and can take place at your local library, park, coffee shop, etc. Tutors are equipped with an English Language Training workshop provided by Literacy Works. Fundraising support Money Masters can use multiple volunteers for fundraising support as this is an essential function for a nonprofit, but it isn't our particular area of expertise. Interested volunteers can basically create their own job description.
Grants Writing/ Management Help the Executive Director write grant applications and maintain correspondence with grantors. Duties will include fiscal work on grants. Can work from home, occasional meetings.
Helpline Volunteer Assist Porchlight Counseling Services with our helpline calls. We receive calls from potential clients or people wanting more information about our services. Past experience in the field of sexual assault or social work is required. This opportunity can be done from home- though the volunteer will need to come to our office for training and materials.
Lawrence Hall Junior Board The Lawrence Hall Junior Board is a group of young, urban professionals who volunteer their time to mentor the children and youth in our Residential Treatment Program. They plan and participate in monthly recreational, educational and social activities. The LH Junior Board organizes 1-2 fundraising events each year to raise money to support the activites they plan with our children.

Research Center volunteer Are you interested in mysteries? Weekly (Wednesdays) a group of volunteers meets to keep the archives of the historical society up-to-date. We file and catalogue, but we also are involved in solving history's mysteries. When someone calls about Indian Trail Trees or a significant person in Glencoe we're the ones who find the answer to questions by looking things up, delving into old telephone directories or maps. You don't have to know history to work here; we'll teach you. But if you like knowing about the beginnings – and even the middle and modern – days of the Village, we'd love to have you join us. The major project right now is organizing the huge photo collection, but if you'd rather read old newspapers for clippings or organize a person's life using old documents like a jigsaw puzzle, this is for you.
Sign-In Team (SIT) In this position, volunteers check in individuals who are registered for our joint NSSC/OASIS programs. (Program topics include art, music, politics, religion and spirituality, history, etc.) The SIT volunteer arrives one hour before the program to organize enrollment lists and welcome registrants. Once everyone is signed in (about 15 minutes after the class starts), the volunteer joins (and enjoys!) the program for no charge and is "on call" if the presenter needs assistance (i.e. with the lights). After the class ends, the volunteer returns the sign-in materials to the office. Training is provided.
Teleconference Coordinator Solicit and set up VoIP sites and service for local and national conferences. Assist with conference program registrations, site set up, and coordination with conference instructors. Can work from home with Skype capabilites.
Tutor Wonderful oppourtunity to make a real difference in the lives of school-age children. The ABC Polk Brothers Youth Center (part of the Chicago Youth Centers organization) needs volunteers to tutor students, helping out with their homework, at their after-school program. The ages of the children range from kindergarten through high school. Tutoring for college entrance exams also will be offered. We would like a weekly commitment from our volunteers to provide consistency to the children. Any training or assistance, if requested, will be provided to the tutors. This tutoring program is organized by the Northern Board of Chicago Youth Centers, based in the north suburbs, and members of the Northern Board usually will be tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, along with other volunteer tutors. Our members can help arrange transportation for other volunteers from the north suburbs.
Tutor/Mentor We are seeking tutors/mentors for our after-school program who are willing to make a serious commitment to the program and the students. We prefer that tutors and mentors be able to volunteer on a regular basis so that students feel like the mentors are truly invested in them and available to them on a regualr, stable basis.

Joseph Sears School Playground Build Scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2009 Dust off your tool belts! The planned Playground Build project will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are looking for friends of the Joseph Sears School community (age 18 years and older) to help us with this community project. For this project to be successful we need everyone who is able to participate so that the school community's children have another safe place to play. The playground architect will be on hand with the main groundwork already done and will be overseeing the day's activities. All materials and tools will be provided.
